Defending WAFCON champions Banyana Banyana claimed a massive 4-0 win over Mali in the final pool game played on Monday night at Honneur Stadium in Oujda.

Jermaine Seoposenwe set up Lebogang Ramalepe for a great finish just inside the first five minutes.

South Africa then added the second goal through their captain Refiloe Jane, after 31 minutes from a free-kick at the edge of the danger zone.

The third strike for Desiree Ellis' team came in the 61st minute when Karabo Dhlamini picked Hilda Magaia's run in the danger zone, and the latter chose her spot before finding the back of the net.

Substitute Ronnel Donnelly showed great composure before converting Nonhlanhla Mthandi's precise pass to score her first-ever senior goal for the national team.

It was a massive result for South Africa, who proved they still have the hunger to go all the way.

  • THE MVP

Lebogang Ramalepe showed she can effectively deliver in the wing as much as she does when on defensive duties.

Her composure for the first goal was unmatched, and she remained a constant threat to the defenders when in attack.

    She is our MVP.

  • THE BIG LOSER

Mali came into the match aware that a draw would be enough to see them finish second on the table and land a relatively easier team in the last eight.

However, they just didn't show up for the party; Ghana stole their spot to finish behind the defending champions, as Mali advanced as one of the best third-placed teams alongside Senegal.

  • WHAT COMES NEXT?

After topping Group C, South Africa will now play Senegal in the quarter-final scheduled for Saturday.

The winner between Banyana and Senegal will face Nigeria or Zambia in the semi-finals.

Mali, on the other hand, dropped to third on the table, meaning they will have a daunting task against the hosts, Morocco, in the last eight hurdle.

Ghana, who finished second in the group after a 4-1 win over Tanzania, will play Algeria.
