  • PIRATES GRAB LATE COMEBACK

Meanwhile, Pirates were on the verge of starting their Diski Challenge campaign badly, but their relentless fighting saw them grab a 3-3 draw against Durban City at Mpumalanga Stadium.

Within just five minutes, Samkelo Zikalala, one of Pirates' new signings, broke the deadlock.

Bucs were stunned when City's Lindokuhle Chonco equalised in the 17th minute after the deadlock was broken, before he grabbed his brace seven minutes later.

Just before the break, Chonco struck his third goal from the spot kick as Pirates were left crestfallen.

However, Roscoe Krieling's charges came back from the interval determined to fight back, and indeed they managed that.

They were awarded a penalty, and Moses Mphekgoane managed to convert it, giving his side the morale to fight even more.

Eventually, Cristian Derbyshire, another new signing, scored a late and crucial goal in the game to ensure Pirates evaded a defeat in their season-opening game.

  • WHO ARE BUCS' NEW SIGNINGS?

Apart from Derbyshire and Zikalala, the other signings for Pirates' DDC side are Bandile Dlamini, Ntando Ngcobo, Tristan O’Malley, Lyle Chatburn, Oratile Rantasi, Oscar Gqeke, and Joy Manana.
