    WHAT HAPPENED?

Iqraam Rayners, who netted his 11th league goal of the season in Mamelodi Sundowns' recent clash against Cape Town City, has shared his thoughts ahead of their upcoming encounter against Chippa United. The striker emphasized the importance of staying focused as they edge closer to securing an eighth consecutive league title.

Chilli Boys, under the leadership of Thabo September, are desperate to bounce back after suffering two consecutive defeats. Rayners acknowledged that the Gqeberha side will be no pushovers, especially with their top-eight ambitions still within reach.

Masandawana will be wary of any slip-ups as every point now is crucial in wrapping up the title. With momentum on their side, Sundowns are expected to approach this match with intensity and purpose. However, they understand that United could be a potential stumbling block if not taken seriously.

    WHAT RAYNERS SAID

“It’s always difficult to play against the teams much below us on the log because they are fighting to get into the top eight, and they are willing to fight for their lives, and make it really difficult for a team like Sundowns,” said Rayners when speaking to Sundowns media.

“For us, it’s important to get the points and to focus on the next game."

Chippa United haven’t won any of their last four matches in the Betway Premiership, so Iqraam Rayners expects them to be highly motivated when they collide with Sundowns.

“I know Chippa United have a lot of quality players, quality players that will look to cause danger against us.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

A win for Sundowns will bring them a step closer to confirming their dominance in the league once again. With both Iqraam Rayners and Lucas Ribeiro firing in the final third, the side has no shortage of attacking firepower.

However, Chippa United will be fighting with everything they have to secure a top-eight finish. Coach Thabo September will be looking to rising star Sinoxolo Kwayiba, who has attracted interest from Orlando Pirates, to make a difference on the day. It’s a high-stakes match for both teams—one chasing glory, the other chasing survival in the elite bracket.
