Chippa United coach September highlights importance of former Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates star Andile Jali to Chilli Boys - 'He still has a big part to play'

Chippa United were knocked out of the Nedbank Cup by Kaizer Chiefs, extending their poor run in 2025.

Coach Thabo September, who replaced Kwanele Kopo in December 2024, has experienced mixed results but remains determined to turn things around.

After the match, he addressed the media, reflecting on the game and the impact of experienced players like Andile Jali.

Jali was introduced in the second half as Chippa trailed, showcasing his importance to the squad.

September emphasized the value Jali brings both on and off the field.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder remains a key figure as Chippa aims to improve their league form.

“I think for AJ, he’s playing his part in terms of the team and what we wanted him to do,” September told the media, as reported by iDiski Times.

“He’s helping the young players to grow. We are introducing the likes of Giovanni [Philander], the likes of Papama [Tyongwana]. There’s other boys that we are introducing like Boy Madingwane. So, he’s helping us in that regard.

“On the field, he still has a big part to play. Yes, he had a muscle strain two, three weeks back.

“He’s coming back from that but as soon as he’s back into top shape, he is a key part of the team.”

With their Nedbank Cup campaign over, Chippa United must now focus solely on the league, where they sit in 11th place after 15 matches.

The team is at the halfway mark of the season and will need consistency to climb the table.

September will be eager to guide his side to a strong finish and avoid being drawn into the relegation battle.
