    WHAT HAPPENED?

Orlando Pirates have been fined by the Premier Soccer League for spectator misbehaviour during their shocking defeat to Magesi FC in a Carling Knockout first round.

Feeling aggrieved by the match officials during the match, Bucs fans threw objects at referees, and the PSL Discplinary Commitee has now sanctioned the Soweto giants.

PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu confirmed that the Sea Robbers pleaded guilty to spectator misbehaviour and were fined R100,000.

    WHAT WAS SAID

"I can confirm that earlier this morning, Orlando Pirates Football Club appeared before the PSL DC to answer to charges of spectator misbehavior arising from a missile-throw incident wherein the spectators threw an assortment of missiles directed at the match officials in their match against Magesi FC," Majavu said.

"Orlando Pirates FC pleaded guilty as charged and were subsequently convicted accordingly. Having listened to the submission regarding aggravation and mitigation of sanction and mindful that they pleaded guilty and as first offenders, the PSL ruled as follows.

"They were fined a monetary amount of R100,000 of which half is suspended for 12 months on conditions that during the period of suspension, they are not found guilty of the same offence. If they were to re-offend the suspended portion would become immediately effective as well as an additional sanction for the new offence," he added.

"They were further ordered to carry the costs of the DC proceedings, which are usually administratively computed and added to the R50,000 fine, which is effective immediately."
