    TELL ME MORE

Mamelodi Sundowns produced another convincing performance as they defeated Magesi FC 2-0 in their final Premier Soccer League game at Loftus Versefeld Stadium on Sunday.

Lucas Ribeiro was the hero of the day as he not only scored a brace that gave his side the win but also won the Golden Boot award.

Meanwhile, Sundowns got down quickly to business, and in the fourth minute they had their opener. Ribeiro scored his 15th goal of the season early in the first half as Brazilians sent a signal to the visitors that they were not taking the game lightly, although it does not mean much to them.

The Tshwane giants came close to scoring the second goal in the ninth minute, but after nicely collecting the low pass from Aubrey Modiba, Ribeiro fired wide from a very promising position.

Iqraam Rayners came close to extending the lead in the 13th minute, but he was denied by the post. In the 19th minute, the Golden Boot-chasing attacker was denied by a good save by Magesi's goalkeeper, Elvis Chipezeze.

Ribeiro scored his 16th goal of the season in the 22nd minute from a set-piece situation. On the coronation day, the Brazilian registered a brace that would make the day even more memorable for him in the future.

Sundowns now have the same points - 73 - as they had last season when they also emerged winners, while Magesi are 12th with 29 points.

    THE MVP

Ribeiro had an outstanding performance by scoring two goals in the first half. His effort played a huge role as Sundowns ended the season on a high.

The attacker, who is a prime candidate to win the PSL Player of the Season, could bag the Golden Boot award as he is on 16 goals, two above Rayners, and eight clear of his teammate Arthur Sales, Tshegofatso Mabasa of Orlando Pirates, and Stellenbosch's Devin Titus.

    THE BIG LOSER

Rayners worked hard to close in on Ribeiro in the Golden Boot race, only to miss out on it on the final game of the season.

He was unlucky as he was denied by the post and a good save by Chipezeze.
