    How the Spurs-Chiefs saga started

Kaizer Chiefs wanted to sign Asanele Velebayi initially, but Cape Town Spurs reportedly wanted R10 million.

The Glamour Boys backed out since they felt that it was too much for the South African attacker.

The Soweto giants returned with a bid of R4 million and two players on loan, but again the Urban Warriors refused the deal.

How Chiefs signed Baartman and Velebayi for free

Spurs were relegated, last season, to the South African third tier, which is an amateur league.

It meant players contracted to the club were free to leave on a free transfer, according to the rules governing Mzansi football.

Amakhosi capitalised on the situation to sign Luke Baartman and Velebayi, but Spurs unsuccessfully appealed the decision

After losing the battle, Urban Warriors CEO Alexi Efstathiou now wants to mend the relationship with the players.

Spurs want to truce with Velebayi & Baartman

“I would like to still meet them at some point and share my thoughts,” he told FARPost.
“They know I always had time for them. We’ve always had good relationships with our players. Sometimes, it’s like father and son.
“It leaves a bitter taste in the mouth when your son leaves home without saying goodbye," Efstathiou concluded.

    Will Chiefs yield?

Well, it is interesting to see how Chiefs will react to the issue, considering the back and forth the two clubs have had regarding the two players.

However, Spurs have shown a good gesture by wanting to make peace with the involved parties in their bid to ensure bad blood doesn't exist.
