    Chiefs' interest

Former Milford FC coach Mandla Qhogi has revealed that Kaizer Chiefs were interested in signing Stellenbosch FC's Mthetheleli Mthiyane at the end of last season.

Amakhosi have been one of the busiest clubs in the current transfer window, having signed 11 new players, including midfielders.

Qhogi, who is currently coaching Nsingingizi Hotspurs in Eswatini, has also stated that he does not understand why the Soweto giants did not sign the player after all.

Stellies beat Chiefs in race for star

“There were offers from Chiefs and Stellenbosch. I don’t know what might have happened between Chiefs and him, or how he ended up at Stellenbosch. It would have been unfair to take him to Eswatini when he had offers in the PSL,” Qhogi told KickOff.

“I got a call from Stellenbosch, and they wanted to find out more about him in terms of the kind of player [he was] and his behaviour. I gave a good reference because I know the boy.

"He is a fantastic player who likes to work hard. He can play as a box-to-box player and a deep-lying midfielder. He is aggressive and comfortable on the ball. He is disciplined and likes to do extra training."

    Qualities

What Chiefs missed by not signing the Stellenbosch genius was seen during the MTN8 final when the Maroons took on Orlando Pirates on Saturday.

Although arguably the MTN8 final Man of the Match contender ended up on the losing side, his brilliance against Bucs was visible.

He is proving to be one of the best signings Steve Barker made for the new season, given his work rate and creativity shown so far.

Stellies look forward after MTN8 setback

After suffering another heartbreak in the MTN8 final at the hands of Pirates, the Maroons must dust themselves off and focus on their next games.

Stellies are set to face AmaZulu for their midweek PSL game at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Wednesday.
