    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kenya's Harambee Stars were placed in Group A alongside Morocco, Zambia, DR Congo, and Angola, which is a tough pool.

Being the first time competing in the biennial competition was definitely not going to be a walk in the park for Benni McCarthy's men.

Co-hosting the competition alongside Uganda and Tanzania means the pressure will also be high against Stars.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Kenya played two-time CHAN Champions DR Congo at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, on Sunday.

Despite the odds being against them, they delivered a 1-0 win courtesy of Austin Odhiambo's strike that came in the stroke of half-time.

The hosts managed to hold their opponents and eventually collected their first win in the group.

HOW MUCH WILL STARS EARN IF THEY WIN CHAN?

Every player was rewarded approximately R141,000 after claiming their first win last weekend. Every draw attracts half the amount.

The players have been further promised R8.5 million if they advance to the quarter-final, and R10 million if they get a semi-final ticket.

Interestingly, President William Ruto promised to reward Benni McCarthy's men R85 million if they win the competition, while former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi promised further R56 million bringing the total to approximately R141 million.
