Benni McCarthy guides Kenya to CHAN Group A top spot after edging Zambia ahead of quarter-final showdown against former Kaizer Chiefs star's side

Kenya concluded their Group A campaign at the 2024 African Championship with a slim victory over Zambia at Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani on Sunday. 

Ryan Ogam scored with 15 minutes to go to hand the Harambee Stars victory as they had already confirmed their place in the quarter-finals.

The result saw Benni McCarthy as Kenya topping their group with one point clear at the summit. 

Having maintained an unbeaten run in the group stage with three wins and a draw, Kenya presented their case as a side not to be underestimated. 

They are now regarded as one of the favourites to win this tournament they are co-hosting together with Uganda and Tanzania.

With some strong backing from their fans, the Harambee Stars have set a bar for themselves and heightened expectations.  

As co-hosts, Kenya are under pressure to at least reach the final of CHAN. 

Also, the stature of their coach in Bafana Bafana legend McCarthy attracts attention to the Harambee Stars.

This is a coach who got into the Kenya job after leaving Manchester United, where he was a first-team coach.

The Harambee Stars now prepare to face former Kaizer Chiefs star Arohasina 'Dax' Andrianarimanana's Madagascar in the quarter-finals and the match is scheduled to be staged in Nairobi on Friday.

They will be looking to continue with their group stage form and reach the final for the first time.
