    WHAT HAPPENED?

Stellenbosch left-back Fawaaz Basadien has for some time now been linked with Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

That makes him one of the players expected to make a big move during the current player transfer period.

The defender comments on a possible move away from the Cape Winelands side.

    WHAT BASADIEN SAID

“For me, it is to focus on what I can control. Obviously, all the rumours and stuff are nice to have as a player," said Basadien as per FARPost.

"But my main focus is to use whatever opportunity I get to play and keep doing what I do and keep improving every day. So, whatever happens in the background is just part of the rumours that have been created.

"But for me, in football, comes a time where you want to achieve greater things, maybe play for the so-called big teams or make big moves," added the Stellenbosch star.

“It’s about timing, when the time is right for you. But my main focus is not wanting to move now, obviously, I would like it, but my main thing is to keep playing and improving.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Basadien's star continues to rise and was named Stellenbosch's 2025 Footballer of the Season and Players' Player of the Season.

That could make him feel fulfilled with his time at Stellenbosch and seek new challenges elsewhere.

And also considering he contributed to the Maroons reaching the Caf Confederation Cup final, he might want to go to a club which plays Caf Champions League football.

    WHAT NEXT FOR BASADIEN?

The 28-year-old defender has been confirmed as Bafana Bafana captain when the national side faces Tanzania in an international friendly match at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday.

Such confidence in him by coach Hugo Broos might be a hint that he could make it to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals.
