Kaizer Chiefs coach Cedric Kaze has defended the club's forward Ashley Du Preez after he failed to score from an open chance against Simba in a CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round on Saturday.
Amakhosi were held to a goalless draw at TP Mazembe Stadium in Lubumbashi, but the Soweto giants were left to rue the chances that were created but went to waste.

"About Ashley, I won’t say that it is normal, but it happens in football. It is like an accident," Kaze told the media.
"An accident happens in football, and he was devastated after the game that he missed that opportunity that could have sealed a win for us at the last minute," he added.

Apart from defending the forward, Kaze has revealed the star will receive support from both the team and his teammates.
"But as coaches, as a club, with his teammates, we are here to support him. We are here to show him that even in bad moments we are here to support because, you know, it is easy to throw rocks at someone that hasn’t done well," the Burundian added.
"But remember, Ashley has helped us a lot in previous games. I remember the last-minute goal against [Mamelodi] Sundowns in the semifinals, last season, of the Nedbank Cup which took us to the final, which took us to the trophy," he stated.
"But the biggest thing is to show him our support, and I’m pretty sure that he is a guy with a very strong mentality. He will bounce back very quickly."
BackpageSubject of discussion
After he missed the open chance, Du Preez became a subject of online debate, with some fans criticising him harshly.
This was a huge chance that would have given the Glamour Boys an advantage ahead of the return leg.
After eight appearances this season, the 28-year-old is yet to find the back of the net, and the big miss against Simba might pile more pressure on him.
Meanwhile, Amakhosi will host their continental rivals on October 25 for the do-or-die showdown.
Before that Chiefs will host Siwelele FC at FNB Stadium on Wednesday in a PSL clash.
