Arsenal told Sverre Nypan transfer deadline by player's father as Man City's sister club Girona line up move ahead of Champions League showdown with Gunners

Sverre Nypan made his debut for Norwegian top division side Rosenborg at 15 in 2022 and is now considered one of the hottest prospects in European football. Several top clubs, including Arsenal, have shown interest in the player and the Gunners are expected to learn this week if they will be able to secure the teenager's signature.

According to The Telegraph, Arsenal will face competition from Girona, who are also determined to sign the wonderkid. Backed by the City Football Group, Girona are pushing hard to sign the midfielder and remain confident that they will be able to convince him to come to La Liga, where he could go straight into the starting lineup, instead of moving to the Premier League, where there is no guarantee of regular game time.

The player's father Arne Nypan has set a transfer deadline for his son as he told Nettavisen: "It is an advantage to put it behind us and make a decision before the window closes. They are big and professional clubs [interested in Nypan], but what impresses me is how thoroughly nice people they are and they have good values.

"They are really concerned about Sverre, which we were careful about. They value him so highly that he is more than just a piece in a big game. It would have been easy if there were some alternatives where some were obviously better than others, but it is difficult. It is at a very high level and will be good anyway."

He added: "I think Sverre is open to both options. He hasn’t gotten there in the process yet, so we have to discuss that."

Amid their transfer battle with the City Football Group, Mikel Arteta's Arsenal side will first face Girona in the Champions League on Wednesday before meeting Manchester City in the Premier League on February 2, with the winter window set to shut the following day.
