    WHAT HAPPENED?

South Africa's dream of successfully defending their WAFCON crown was ended on Tuesday evening when they were beaten 2-1 by Nigeria.

The Super Falcons scored their goals through Rasheedat Ajibade and Michelle Alozie, while Banyana Banyana got their strike courtesy of Linda Motlhalo.

While the West African nation will be battling out for the trophy with Morocco in the final, Mzansi will be playing Ghana, hoping to win bronze.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

A section of stakeholders and fans believe South Africa were undone by a serious injury suffered by striker Gabriela Salgado in the 84th minute.

However, others believe goalkeeper Andile Dlamini is to blame for the Super Falcons' winning goal because she failed to keep out a seemingly harmless long-range effort from Alozie.

The Mamelodi Sundowns custodian has refused to be demoralised and is ready to prove her critics wrong.

  • WHAT NEXT?

The players should now rise up for the occasion and at least win bronze by beating Ghana.

The Black Queens fell 2-0 against the former champions in an earlier Group C game, and will definitely want to avenge the defeat.
