    WHAT HAPPENED?

South Africa Under-20 starlet Kgomotso Madiba has joined Fluminense from Stars of Africa Football Academy.

He was training with the Brazilian Serie A heavyweights for the past two months, and they were impressed by his exploits.

Prior to that, he also trained with Familicao in Portugal and Nadime Mahmoud, who works as his representative, confirmed the Fluminense agreement.

    WHAT MAHMOUD SAID

"We have done a pre-contract agreement with Fluminense, which comes into effect when he turns 18 on December 14," Mahmoud told KickOff.

"It is a three-year deal agreement with Fluminense. The boy has already spent the past two months in Brazil at Fluminense, and before that he was here in Portugal.

"His deal at Fluminense only comes into effect when he turns 18 because of the FIFA regulations.

"He has now travelled back to South Africa to join the squad as he was called up."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Joining a club like Fluminense is a big break for the 17-year-old, who has witnessed some of his compatriots finding it difficult in North Africa or some less-heralded leagues in Europe.

At the Serie A giants who faced Mamelodi Sundowns at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, he will team up with former Chelsea defender and Brazilian football legend Thiago Silva.

Should he go straight to train with the first team, rubbing shoulders with experienced Fluminense players would help him grow.

That could also speed his progression into the Bafana Bafana fold, and he could also fancy going to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals.

    WHAT NEXT FOR MADIBA?

Madiba is part of Raymond Mdaka's Amajita squad set to take part at the 2025 FIFA Under-20 World Cup this September.

This is a tournament he might want to use to attract global attention, and joining Fluminense will give him the much-needed boost going to Chile.
