    WHAT HAPPENED?

    An alleged drunk South African player turning out for a top Premier Soccer League team was involved in a nasty accident on Wednesday morning.

    The accident that happened in Tembisa, left a 9-year-old girl dead with another two - her mother and a 13-year-old family friend, rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.

    The driver of the vehicle fled the scene of the accident before the arrival of Ekurhuleni Metro Police.

    It has been reported that the player, who was driving a BMW rammed into an oncoming Hyundai i10 at the Andrew Mapheto Road in Tembisa.

    Upon their search, police recovered alcohol, cocaine, and marijuana edibles that might have been consumed by the player.

    Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department spokesperson Thabiso Makgato has since confirmed that they are looking for the person driving the BMW.

    WHAT POLICE SAID

    "A female driver was transporting her nine-year-old daughter. The child succumbed to her injuries and was declared dead at the scene. The mother’s 13-year-old daughter sustained serious injuries and was transported to Tembisa Tertiary Hospital," Makgato stated.

    "We found four bottles of Don Julio alcohol. We also found a powder, which we suspect could be cocaine and weed edibles in his vehicle.

    "It is alleged it is a soccer player [driving the BMW], based on the outcome of the verification of the driver’s license record.  Until such time all investigations have been completed, the identity of the driver involved shall be determined."

    The driver of the BMW will face charges of culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving, and fleeing the scene of the accident.

    The condition of the child's mother and the 13-year-old who were injured in the crash is currently unknown.

    The Sowetan is reporting that Ekurhuleni metro police spokesperson Thabiso Makgato has confirmed that Sekhukhune United player Shaune Mogaila handed himself over to the police at the Rabie Ridge police station on Wednesday afternoon.
