Al Ahly boss explains the key to Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau's new contract

Al Ahly sporting director Mohamed Ramadan has commented on the future of Bafana Bafana attacker Percy Tau.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns star's future has been a subject of much speculation as he nears the end of his contract.

"Percy Tau's contract renewal is pending, but it depends on coach [Marcel] Koller's vision," Mohamed said as per KickOff.

"We'll make the best decision for the player in coordination with the coach."

To earn himself a new contract with Al Ahly, Tau will have to return to being on top of his game.

Tau is experiencing what could be a slow season since arriving in Egypt in August 2021 with just five appearances so far across all competitions this season.

If a new deal is not yet signed by January, it could be an indication that Al Ahly are no longer keen on him as he would be free to enter into a pre-contract agreement with a club of his choice.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns star will now hope to start earning himself more playing minutes for Al Ahly.

He is also back in the Bafana Bafana squad after being named in the preliminary selection of the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Uganda and South Sudan.

If Al Ahly opt against keeping him beyond this season, a move back to the Premier Soccer League cannot be ruled out from Tau.
