    WHAT HAPPENED?

Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou oversaw the signing of Oswin Appoollis after the winger was long linked with a move to the Buccaneers.

However, the arrival of the 23-year-old has not yielded the expected partnership between him and Relebohile Mofokeng.

Ex-Pirates star Benedict Vilakazi feels Mofokeng has not been himself since the signing of Appollis.

    WHAT VILAKAZI SAID

“Sometimes it needs to go with respect for each other, and I think from the side of the team they don’t show respect to the boy,” said Vilakazi as per iDiski Times.

“With all the seasons that this boy has been playing at Pirates, he’s been doing very well creating chances, scoring and where it matters most he rises to the occasion. And now you buy somebody from somewhere and now you need to compromise him I don’t think they are showing respect to him.

"Why isn’t Appollis sitting on the bench and waiting until Mofokeng is off to get his time to play?" asked the Pirates' all-time leading goal-scorer

"That would show that we respect you boy we know what you can do because you have done it before, and you can continue until the day we see Mofokeng is off form. That would be a chance for Appollis to come in and get his chance again.

“But in this manner, it’s going to kill the spirit of the boy, and such things make the team to be disorganised because no one has confidence in the position they are playing, whether you are doing well or not you know if they decide to put you out, they will put you out.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

While Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos is yet to play Mofokeng and Appollis at the same time, Ouaddou has been trying to have them on the pitch together.

That has seen Mofokeng operating from the left wing with Appollis on the right, although they switch flanks.

However, the former Buccaneers development player has struggled to shine this season after spending the last two terms as a top performer.

    WHAT NEXT?

With Kamogelo Sebelebele having shone bright during last weekend's MTN8 semi-final, first-leg match against Mamelodi Sundowns while playing as a right attacker, it is to be seen if Appollis will be accommodated in the starting line-up.

The former Polokwane City man came on from the bench in that match, which saw Sebelebele claiming the Man of the Match award.
