    WHAT HAPPENED?

Orlando Pirates host Lioli of Lesotho in the second leg of the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League to be staged at the Orlando Stadium.

The first meeting ended 3-0 in favour of the Premier Soccer League outfit.

Tshegofatso Mabasa scored a brace in that particular match, with Oswin Appollis also finding the back of the net.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Sea Robbers have played the most games in Mzansi, as they participate in numerous competitions both domestically and abroad.

Bucs successfully defended the MTN8, and apart from the Premier Soccer League and the CAF Champions League, they will also be chasing the Nedbank Cup and Carling Knockout.

It explains why coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has hinted he will be rotating his squad to limit the chances of injuries and fatigue.

The former Morocco international has further reassured fringe players that they will get their chance to deliver.

    WHAT OUADDOU SAID

“It is important to have good management of players when you play in many competitions,” the former Marumo Gallants coach said.

“We don’t want injuries because we have a long season. When we came to Bloemfontein, we had already planned for the two games against Lioli FC and Siwelele FC.

"The quality of other players the Pirates recruited for this season is fantastic. I have told some of them, this is not the time to play, but they have to be patient because everybody will have a chance this season,” Ouaddou concluded.

  • WHAT NEXT?

Chances are high that the Bucs might opt to start with the same squad that did the job in the first leg before making any changes.

Last season, the South African outfit reached the semi-final before falling to eventual champions Pyramids, and will be hoping to go all the way.
