    WHAT HAPPENED?

Keagan Dolly is one of the most experienced players in South Africa, having played in the Premier Soccer League and Europe.

In Mzansi, the now 32-year-old has played for Mamelodi Sundowns, Ajax Cape Town, which is currently known as Cape Town Spurs, Kaizer Chiefs, and, most recently, TS Galaxy.

The attacker has also represented South Africa in different categories.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

When Dolly left Sundowns, he joined French outfit Montpellier, where he played for five seasons, until the 2020/21 campaign.

Kaizer Chiefs signed him for a three-year deal, and upon its expiry, he was released at the end of the 2023/24 season.

In the last campaign, he played for the Rockets, who have now released him; Dolly believes the majority of the teams intentionally do away with players who are 30 and above because they feel they can't give much.

    WHAT DOLLY SAID

“It does disappoint, but I mean it doesn’t start with me, there’s been a lot of players in the past as well that left teams because they’re just over 30,” he told SABC.
“Some have struggled to find teams and are forced to retire because it’s difficult [to get a new team] when you’re at that age.
“Hopefully they see that we can still offer a lot for a lot of good clubs and for South African football, not only playing but being part of the club and sharing your experience with upcoming players.
“It makes a lot of difference as well. But yeah, it’s disappointing to see how a lot of players struggle after turning 30 and above," Dolly concluded.
