    WHAT HAPPENED?

Mamelodi Sundowns increased their lead at the top of the log standings to 18 points over Orlando Pirates after beating AmaZulu 2-0, with goals from Peter Shalulile and Arthur Sales.

The Namibian's opener was his 100th goal for Masandawana in 194 appearances since joining the club in 2020 from Highlands Park.

In the 2024/25 season, he has scored 10 goals in all competitions after 37 appearances.

Speaking to Mamelodi Sundowns TV after reaching the milestone, the 31-year-old thanked his teammates and all the coaching staff he has worked with since arriving. He expressed his happiness in achieving this feat and emphasized the importance of hard work and discipline.

    WHAT SHALULILE SAID

“The journey without God—it’s impossible to achieve. But with God, I achieved it through my teammates and the coaching staff that were here, both the ones we started with and the ones that are here now. I would like to thank the supporters, my teammates, but mostly Christ Jesus, who was with me throughout this journey. It was not easy. As you see, it’s been years of hard work, determination, and discipline, but it finally came through," said Shalulile on Mamelodi Sundowns TV.

“The thanks and gratitude really go to the Lord, my teammates who have been pushing me, and also the opponents we play against. Those are the reasons why I keep going. You know, when you see another striker doing well, it also pushes you to do better. So, for me, the emotions are high—I just feel happy, and I feel like I can do more. I would just like to thank the supporters for always coming out in numbers, for supporting us through the thick and thin. It has been a great journey, and we keep on going. Thank you.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Namibian has not had a great goalscoring run in the league, with six goals in 21 games played, but he has played a huge role in assisting his teammates.

Lucas Ribeiro leads the scoring charts with 13 goals, followed by Iqraam Rayners with nine and the trio has been instrumental, contributing 22 of Sundowns’ 50 league goals this season.

Their combined efforts have strengthened Masandawana’s attacking force. Despite his dip in goal-scoring form, Shalulile remains a key figure for Sundowns.

    WHAT NEXT?

Looking to tighten their grip on the league after a strong home win, Sundowns will travel across the Jukskei River to take on Orlando Pirates.

The Buccaneers dropped two crucial points in their last match and despite having four games in hand, the clash at FNB will be a six-pointer. Miguel Cardoso will be aiming for maximum points against José Riveiro and a league double.
