Green Bay Packers vs Detroit Lions NFL Preview: Team news, odds, tickets, predictions, live stream, Fantasy Football and more

The Detroit Lions travel to Lambeau Field on September 7 to face the Green Bay Packers, with kickoff slated for 4:25 pm ET in Green Bay.

Detroit enters 2025 coming off one of its most memorable regular seasons in decades. The Lions posted a sparkling 15-2 mark in 2024, capturing their third consecutive winning campaign, something the franchise hadn’t achieved since 1995, and another NFC North crown. Though viewed by many as the sentimental pick to make a Super Bowl run, their postseason journey ended earlier than expected in a high-scoring divisional round shootout against the upstart Washington Commanders, falling 45-31.

The Packers, meanwhile, endured the grind of a cutthroat NFC North and finished 2024 with an 11-6 record, a step forward from the previous year’s 9-8 finish. That effort secured them a Wild Card berth despite landing third in the division. Their playoff push, however, was short-lived, as Green Bay bowed out to the eventual champion Philadelphia Eagles, 22-10, in the opening round.

Green Bay Packers vs Detroit Lions roster & injury news

Green Bay Packers team news

Green Bay’s preseason was a mixed bag. The Packers opened with a lopsided 30-10 defeat, giving up points in every quarter. Malik Willis struggled through the air (39 yards on 4-of-9), but Amar Johnson showed promise with 67 rushing yards and a touchdown. In their second outing, the Packers rallied late, scoring 13 points in the fourth quarter to edge the Colts 23-19.

Willis tossed for 83 yards, Israel Abanikanda chipped in 43 rushing yards and a score, and Cornelius Johnson led the receiving corps with 41 yards. Their finale against Seattle saw Green Bay jump out to a commanding 20-0 halftime lead before cruising to a 20-7 win. Both quarterbacks contributed touchdown passes — Taylor Elgersma going 6-of-8 for 33 yards and Willis adding 50 yards with a score despite throwing an interception — while Emmanuel Wilson led the backfield with 38 rushing yards on eight carries.

Detroit Lions team news

Quarterback Kyle Allen impressed in that victory, connecting on 7-of-8 passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns, while receiver Jackson Meeks chipped in three grabs for 78 yards and a score.

In their third contest, Detroit squared off with Miami, holding a halftime lead before eventually slipping 24-17. Allen stayed sharp, tossing two more touchdown passes on 14-of-17 attempts for 124 yards. Jacob Saylors paced the ground game with 39 rushing yards, while Meeks once again delivered with seven receptions for 93 yards and another touchdown.

Packers vs Lions Fantasy Football

The Packers enter with a balanced offensive attack, led by Jordan Love (14.9 projected Week 1 fpts), whose dual-threat ability makes him a dependable fantasy starter. With Christian Watson on PUP and Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, and Savion Williams banged up, Green Bay’s receiver room is wide open. Rookie Matthew Golden is poised to slide in as Love's top boundary target.

He’ll likely line up opposite Romeo Doubs, with Reed (if healthy) in the slot. Facing a tough coverage duo in Terrion Arnold and D.J. Reed, Golden’s route-running and speed could still shine through. Packers are expected to air it out in a competitive Week 1 game, making Golden a tantalizing WR3/flex option. According to FantasyPros, Golden is projected to score 12.3 PPR points (WR48) in Week 1.

On the Lions' side, the offense leans heavily on star wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown (17.0 projected W1 points), who continues to be a fantasy goldmine in PPR formats. Quarterback Jared Goff (16.2) remains a serviceable option but faces a tough matchup against Green Bay’s pass rush.

Packers vs Lions Game Predictions

ESPN’s matchup predictor leans slightly toward Detroit, giving the Lions a 51.9% probability of pulling out a win on Sunday. The Packers, meanwhile, are pegged with a 47.7% chance to grab the victory, with only a sliver left on the board for the rare possibility of a tie.
