Cowboys vs Giants roster & injury news

Dallas Cowboys team news

Over in Dallas, the Cowboys kicked off not only their season but also the NFL calendar with a primetime showdown against the Philadelphia Eagles. They traded blows early, pulling within 21-20 by halftime, but the offense sputtered after the break, failing to score in a 24-20 setback.

Dak Prescott finished 21-of-34 for 188 yards, while new backfield addition Javonte Williams powered in two touchdowns on 15 carries for 54 yards. Out wide, CeeDee Lamb picked up right where he left off last year, torching Philly’s secondary for 110 yards on seven receptions.

New York Giants team news

The Giants' preseason momentum came to a screeching halt in Week 1, as they stumbled out of the gates against the Washington Commanders. Trailing 14-3 at the break, New York’s offense never found its rhythm, managing just a lone field goal in the second half of a 21-6 defeat.

Russell Wilson struggled to get much going through the air, completing 17 of 37 passes for 169 yards, though he did lead the team on the ground with 43 rushing yards. Rookie Malik Nabers showed flashes with five grabs for 71 yards, while Wan’Dale Robinson chipped in six catches for 55 yards in the losing effort.

Cowboys vs Giants head-to-head record

Sunday marks the 127th showdown between the Giants and Cowboys since Dallas joined the league in 1960. The Cowboys hold a commanding edge in the regular-season rivalry, leading 77-46-2, though New York fans will never forget their lone postseason clash — a Giants victory in the 2007 NFC Divisional Playoffs.

Recent history, however, has been all Cowboys. Dallas has taken 15 of the last 16 matchups, including eight straight since 2016 — the longest active winning streak by one team over another in the NFL.

This will also be the first time the two square off on a Sunday since 2023. Last year, Dallas completed a season sweep, edging New York 20-15 under the primetime lights of Thursday Night Football in Week 4, then following it up with a 27-20 triumph on Thanksgiving at AT&T Stadium.

Cowboys vs Giants Fantasy Football

The Cowboys have turned matchups with the Giants into routine wins, rattling off 13 straight with Dak Prescott (18.1 projected fpts) under center. Prescott's fantasy output in Week 1 (7.8 points) left plenty to be desired, but his on-field command told a much different story than the box score. Heading into this season, Dallas looked capable of mirroring last year’s Bengals, but one wrinkle many overlooked was the influence of Matt Eberflus.

Eberflus’ defensive blueprint leans heavily on a conservative zone look, designed to stifle explosive plays and force offenses to grind out long drives. That exact script played out against Philadelphia in the opener, much like what we've seen from Jonathan Gannon in Arizona. The "bend but don’t break" style slows down offensive pace, but Week 2 presents a softer matchup, with Dallas at home, well-rested, and facing a Giants defense that barely rattled Jayden Daniels, pressuring him on only 23.7% of his dropbacks (29th in the league). That gives Prescott a path back into fringe QB1 territory.

For the Giants, Russell Wilson (13.7 projected fpts) struggled so badly in his debut that chatter about Jaxson Dart has already begun. Wilson connected on just 45.9% of his throws—better only than Cam Ward, and finished a staggering 12.7% below his expected completion percentage, ahead of only Bryce Young. With a short leash looming and a tough matchup on paper, Wilson is best left for deeper two-QB formats.

Meanwhile, Javonte Williams (10.5 fpts) turned heads in his Dallas debut, punching in both of the team’s touchdowns while piling up 54 yards on the ground and adding two catches for 10 yards. But the spotlight this week may belong to CeeDee Lamb (12.5 fpts), who despite racking up 110 yards against Philadelphia, dropped three passes—including two late-game miscues that proved costly. Don’t be surprised if Lamb comes out on a mission in Week 2, looking to silence any doubters with a statement performance.

Cowboys vs Giants Game Predictions

According to ESPN, the Giants enter Week 2 with just a 34.1% chance of pulling off the upset, with only a slim margin left for the possibility of a tie.

Dallas showed plenty of fight in its narrow loss to the Eagles in Week 1, while Russell Wilson and New York looked out of sync in a one-sided defeat to Washington. With Dak Prescott steering the ship, the Cowboys appear primed to overwhelm the Giants on their home turf.
