Mason Greenwood hailed as a 'fantastic player' after star showing for Getafe in thrilling 3-3 draw with Atletico Madrid as Jose Bordalas insists Man Utd loanee is back to his 'best level'

Getafe have an awful record against Diego Simeone's Atletico but gave Los Colchoneros all sorts of problems on a dramatic night at the Civitas Metropolitano. Atletico overcame a first-half Stefan Savic red card to take a 3-1 lead but Getafe struck late twice to take a deserved point, with Manchester United loanee Greenwood in a starring role on the right-hand side of the attack.

Asked about Greenwood after the game, Bordalas said: "A fantastic game, like the whole team. I said it from the first day he arrived, he is a fantastic player, who would reach his best level little by little, we have treated him really well and the whole team has played a great game.

"We were punished for some mistakes in the goals, but we are proud of the team's play. Football lovers will have enjoyed the game and the impression of a team that has not given up, having conceded the goals the way we did, after having equalised, dominated — any team would have given up at 3-1, but this team never gives up".

Greenwood has been in strong from for Getafe, the club he joined on loan after United took the decision topart ways with the player after the conclusion of a six-month investigation into his conduct away from the pitch. Getafe have already made it clear that they would like to extend Greenwood's stay in Madrid beyond the terms of the current loan deal, but United are unlikely to make a decision on the winger's future until well into next year.

The return of manager Jose Bordalas has sparked a remarkable turnaround in form for Getafe. The club were mired in the relegation zone with just seven games to play when they turned to their former boss last season. And Bordalas has revitalised the squad as they end the year as European contenders. They'll resume their league campaign in the new year with a local derby against Rayo Vallecano.
