  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Asensio fell out of favour under Luis Enrique in the French capital, resulting in him being loaned to the Premier League side in January. The three-time Champions League winner has flourished under Emery by scoring eight goals in just 10 matches, notably netting both goals as they beat Chelsea 2-1 in February before scoring one and setting up another as they beat Brighton 3-0 on Wednesday.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Asensio's loan deal does not include an option for Villa to sign him, but Estadio Deportivo reports that Emery has told sporting director Monchi to do everything he can to sign him. The 29-year-old former Real Madrid star reportedly has a €15 million (£13m/$17m) release clause, which would not be a major stumbling block for the Premier League side.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Asensio may be out for revenge next week as Villa come up against PSG in the Champions League quarter-finals. He already has three goals in the competition for his new team and will hope to stun Luis Enrique when he returns to the French capital for the first leg.

    WHAT NEXT FOR ASENSIO?

Before he goes back to France with his new side, Asensio will hope to fire Villa to a seventh straight victory when they take on a Nottingham Forest team currently sitting third in the Premier League.
