  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Geyse came off the bench in the 84th minute and made her first appearance for United in 2025 as the club beat Leicester City 2-0 in a Women's Super League clash on Sunday. The Brazil international was back in action after a spell away on on compassionate leave as she returned to her homeland to attend her brother's funeral, who sadly passed away in January.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Geyse, who joined the Red Devils from Barcelona for a record transfer fee in the summer 2023, has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford in the 2024/25 campaign. She has made just nine WSL appearances and started in only six games. The striker's Luis Filipe Silva has accused the club of trying to send her out of the club on loan to an American club, while she was in Brazil for her brother's funeral.

  • WHAT HAS BEEN SAID

Speaking to Telegraph Sport, Silva said: "As you know, her brother passed away, she is going through a very difficult time, it is a very difficult time psychologically and at Man United she is not having the best time. She needs to regain the joy of playing football and doesn’t have it for several reasons.

"The club has clearly shown that it does not count on Geyse, Man United tried to loan Geyse to a club in the USA, but the player has the right to decide about her future and the club she will play for."

He added: "It was clear that the club and the coach don’t count on her – the pressure of being in a place where you feel you are not wanted is tremendous. It is a huge psychological pressure. We are sad and want the best for Geyse."

    WHAT NEXT FOR MANCHESTER UNITED?

Geyse sent out a poignant message after featuring as a substitute in the win over Leicester and her future at the club looks in serious doubt. The transfer window in the US remains open until March 24.
