'Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is better than the whole Spain team' - Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili issues warning to Lamine Yamal & Co ahead of Euro 2024 clash

Ahead of Georgia's knockout stages clash with Spain at the Euros, goalkeeper Mamardashvili has talked up team-mate and Napoli winger Kvaratskhelia. The 23-year-old starred in his side's shock 2-0 win over Portugal and while the Valencia stopper is wary of Spain's pedigree, he believes in his team.

When asked about the threat of Kvaratskhelia, he told Spanish publication Marca: "It think he's better than all of Spain."

The Tbilisi-born 23-year-old, however, was not underestimating their upcoming opponents.

"For me, Spain is the big favourite to win the Euros. Georgia, on the other hand, is a small country, but with a big heart and we have to fight as hard as possible to see what happens," he said. "I'm not going to say that we are going to win. What we have to do is fight until the end and see what happens."

Georgia created history by qualifying for their first-ever European Championship this year and now they are making more history with each game that passes. From scoring their first goal in the competition to securing their maiden victory and then reaching the knockout stages to go into unchartered territory. Now, they are preparing for the biggest game in their footballing history against the might of Spain.

Mamardashvili and Kvaratskhelia's Georgia take on the Spanish on Sunday night in Koln, with the victor facing off against either tournament hosts Germany or Denmark in the quarter-finals on July 5 in Stuttgart.
