'Gutted' Harry Maguire sends message to Man Utd after being ruled out of FA Cup final through injury

The training injury has sidelined the Engish centre back since April 27, and despite his best efforts to recover in time for the crucial match at Wembley Stadium, he has been unable to return to fitness. Maguire had set a personal goal to be fit for the showdown with City, but Manchester United's manager Erik ten Hag confirmed that the defender's recovery had not progressed as hoped and is on the list of absentees along with Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw.

With the UEFA European Championship (Euros) approaching, Maguire is optimistic about his recovery and aims to be fit for the tournament, which starts on June 14. Southgate, who is already dealing with several defensive injuries, is expected to announce his final 26-man squad on June 7. Both Southgate and his assistant, Steve Holland, will be present at Wembley for the FA Cup final, undoubtedly keeping a close eye on potential squad members.

Taking to Instagram, Maguire shared his sorrow over missing the final, stating, “Gutted I’ll be missing out on the final – I’d do anything to be available but now full focus on supporting the boys. Come on United!”

Since joining United from Leicester City in 2019, Maguire has not started in any of the four finals that the club has reached. And this latest injury adds to his frustration and disappointment.

Maguire will directly join Southgate's troops ahead of the European Championship if he makes the cut in the final 26-man squad. He has managed to revive his form and his potential return to fitness will be crucial for England's campaign in Germany.
