  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Alex Mighten has signed for 2025 MLS expansion franchise San Diego FC, on a deal through 2026 with a club option for 2027. The California-based club acquired Mighten's Discovery Priority from Nashville SC in exchange for $50,000 in 2025 General Allocation Money.

The club announced Saturday they will loan the 22-year-old to FC Nordsjælland prior to his arrival stateside in January.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mighten is English-American, and represented the Three Lions at the youth level up until the U20 level. He also has USMNT eligibility.

As a professional, the 22-year-old has 103 senior appearances with six goals and two assists across loans to Sheffield Wednesday and Port Vale in England, a loan stint with KV Kortrijk in Belgium and his time with Forest.

He becomes SDFC's sixth-ever signing, following the blockbuster purchase of Mexico star Chucky Lozano earlier this summer.

"I'm excited to be joining San Diego FC at such an exciting time for the club," said Mighten. "The opportunity to develop further at SDFC and MLS is a perfect scenario for my growth as a player. I can't wait to contribute to the club's success and help build something special in San Diego."

  • WHAT SAN DIEGO SAID

"Alex is an exciting addition to San Diego FC, bringing the energy and creativity we seek in our attacking players," Sporting Director Tyler Heaps said in a statement. "He has unique and special qualities with his ability to unbalance defenders and we are excited to see what he can contribute and bring to MLS. We look forward to welcoming him to SDFC in 2025."

SDFC, who have reportedly found their head coach in USMNT assistant Mikey Varas, will look to continue building their foundation for their inaugural campaign in 2025. Mighten, meanwhile, will look to keep his form and fitness in Danish Superliga.
