Borussia Dortmund star collapsed and taken to hospital with mysterious illness during Champions League clash against Barcelona

Ryerson started the European clash against Barcelona but was taken off at half-time after collapsing, according to Bild. The defender was taken to hospital after the final whistle but the cause of the collapse is still not known. Dortmund are said to be very cautious about proceeding, particularly after Sebastien Haller's recent cancer battle and Ryerson is now undergoing cardiological and neurological examinations.

Ryerson has not played for Dortmund since the Barcelona match as he did not feature in the 1-1 draw with Hoffenheim last time out. It's not known yet when he will return to action as the club's medical staff seek to determine the cause for his collapse. The defender has been at Dortmund since signing from Union Berlin in January 2023 and is a regular fixture in Nuri Sahin's team.

Barcelona went on to win the game 3-2 to inflict a first home defeat of the season on Dortmund and their first loss at Westfalenstadion in the Champions League since November 2021.

Dortmund fans must wait to find out when Ryerson will be available again for the Bundesliga side. Sahin's side play their final game of 2024 on Sunday against Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.
