Arsenal have left Stamford Bridge on Sunday night feeling disappointed with only a point. The Gunners played a large portion of the game against 10 men, and many expected them to snatch maximum points. However, looking at the match as a whole, a draw was probably the fairest result.

The result allowed Mikel Arteta’s men to consolidate the top spot. They now have a five-point cushion over Manchester City. However, it was also a wake-up call for the Gunners. It showed that the chasing pack are ready to pounce on a slip-up.

The North Londoners have another local derby on Wednesday when they welcome Brentford to the Emirates. Three points are non-negotiable for the hosts if they’re to maintain their title charge this season.

Brentford are likely satisfied with how their season is going so far. Several pundits tipped them to be relegation candidates at the start of the season. Keith Andrews was expected to be the first manager to get the sack. However, Andrews has guided his team to midtable, which isn’t a bad place to be.

The Bees are only one point worse off than they were at the same stage under Thomas Frank last season. Wins over Liverpool and Newcastle this term have been impressive. Therefore, taking down a top team like Arsenal is certainly within reach.

Probable lineups for Arsenal vs Brentford

Arsenal expected lineup: Raya, Timber, Mosquera, Hincapie, Calafiori, Zubimendi, Eze, Rice, Saka, Martinelli, Gyokeres

Brentford expected lineup: Kelleher, Kayode, Collins, Van den Berg, Hickey, Henderson, Jensen, Ouatarra, Damsgaard, Shade, Thiago

Arsenal eye continued winning run

Arsenal will be desperate to return to winning ways after that stalemate with Chelsea. The Gunners are on a 17-game unbeaten run across all competitions. They’ve won 14 of those matches, drawing on three occasions.

That will be a concern for Brentford. They have alternated between winning and losing in their last five outings. If that pattern continues, they could be in for a tough afternoon. After all, they are up against a team that have been exceptional this season.

Arsenal are unbeaten against the Bees in their last eight competitive meetings. They won five in that run. Furthermore, four of the Gunners’ last five outings have produced more than two goals. Brentford have had the same in each of their last three league games.

Hope for the visitors

Arteta’s troops had been on a wonderful run of eight games without conceding a goal in all competitions. However, that changed in recent weeks, with the Gunners conceding in their last four games on the bounce. Both teams netted in those fixtures, which will give the visitors some hope.

The visitors’ overall attacking record cannot be underestimated. They’ve scored 21 league goals in 13 games. That record has them down as joint-fourth in the league’s goalscoring charts. Yet, their defence has been poor. They’ve conceded 20 goals in 13 games, and 12 of those came away in just six matches.

Andrews’ men scored in 83% of their away league fixtures this term, which is a strong return on the road. Their last three Premier League outings all saw goals at both ends. Notably, 67% of Brentford’s away dates in this league produced goals at both ends.

Eze to exploit tight defences

Eberechi Eze had a relatively quiet game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. He didn’t get the time and space he had on the ball against Tottenham. However, he could unlock the defence against teams that deploy a low block.

It’s one of the reasons Arteta brought him in: to use his finesse and skill to breach stubborn backlines. Eze has now scored four goals in his last five games for Arsenal in all competitions. With two previous goals against Brentford, he will likely find the back of the net on Wednesday night.
