    WHAT HAPPENED?

Rhulani Mokwena and Wydad Casablanca suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat at home to Maghreb Fez in Saturday's game at the Arab Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca. Ismail Benktib was shown a red card, further disrupting Wydad's performance. This loss marks a major setback in Mokwena's managerial tenure, especially with such a significant margin. Despite showing early promise, Wydad struggled to contain Maghreb Fez on the day. The defeat has raised questions about Mokwena's ability to turn things around with the team.

    WHAT MOKWENA SAID

"The president and the board know me, I have a contract. Yes, we are Wydad (Casablanca). We should never lose like that. And that's why I apologize to the club, to everybody at the club, to the supporters especially. They deserve better. They deserve so much better," Mokwena stated.

"And what the future holds is, is that the club to decide for me, I want to be here. That's what's important is I desire my heart. My heart is Wydad. I love this club, I want to help this club, and I do my best. But you know, you have to, you have to win games as a coach. You have to win games. And at the moment, we are not winning enough games. And that's reality. And I have to take responsibility for."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

This loss to Maghreb Fez does not entirely end Wydad’s hopes for continental football, as the chase for a top position is still in reach.

The defeat pushes Maghreb Fez into fifth place with 25 points, with Wydad staying on 24 points in sixth place.

While this blow hampers their league standing, Mokwena's side must remain focused on bouncing back in future matches.

Wydad’s defeat at home hurts especially considering their solid fan base and expectations for a strong season.

With a large portion of the season remaining, the race for the top spot is still wide open.

This game is crucial not only for Mokwena’s job security but also for the team’s hopes of competing for continental football.

Winning against Tetuán is vital to restore confidence within the squad and keep their ambitions alive.

Mokwena will have to address the team’s discipline issues and ensure no further setbacks.
