    WHAT HAPPENED?

Christian Saile Basomboli was loaned out to SuperSport United from Kaizer Chiefs in January.

After struggling for goals at Amakhosi during the first half of this season, Saile has redeemed himself, scoring two goals in six games across all competitions in what looks like a promising spell in Tshwane.

    WHAT KHANYE SAID

“Gavin Hunt had a smart front three and he played them according to their strength,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.

“There is no pressure at SuperSport, they play him according to his strength they hardly delay the pass at SuperSport. The play at the back, they find [Lebo] Maboe and [Siphesihle] Ndlovu, they know how to pass, they play between the defence and then he goes behind.

“They pass him on his feet, they play and then he runs behind, cross the ball between the penalty spot and the defence because the defence is facing their own goals when the cross is made. That’s difficult because one can score an own goal," added the former Amakhosi wideman.

“Well done to him and he plays the ball on the ground. They also use him according to the team’s strength at SuperSport.

“At Kaizer Chiefs he wanted to do a lot of things, they’d ask him to come and defend. He started his play from the Chiefs’ half that’s the mistake he was making. I mean the guy can’t dribble.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Saile struggling at Chiefs and picking up form at SuperSport could be a reflection of how things are done at Naturena under Nasreddine Nabi as SuperSport coach Gavin Hunt seems to be effectively using him.

This brings into perspective how some players have arrived at Amakhosi while on top of their game but suddenly lose form within the Amakhosi structure.

After Chiefs won the league title in 2015, the likes of Khama Billiat, Keagan Dolly and Ashley du Preez got to the club while enjoying some good football but suddenly fizzled out.

    WHAT NEXT?

SuperSport host Golden Arrows on Saturday and it will be a match Saile will be hoping to start again.

Being regularly in the Matsatsantsa lineup and scoring would spruce up his profile ahead of next season as he tries to be in the plans of Chiefs' coach next season, or wants to find a new home where he can show his best.
