    WHAT HAPPENED?

Rhulani Mokwena has appointed members of staff who will constitute his technical set-up at MC Alger.

The 38-year-old was recently named as coach of the Algerian champions and headlining his backroom staff is goalkeeper coach Wendell Robinson whom he previously worked with at Mamelodi Sundowns.

Sibusiso Mahlangu will be the fitness coach, having worked with Mokwena at Wydad Casablanca.

The assistant coach will be 29-year-old Belgian Enzo Donis who has experience from working with the Togo national team and AS Vita.

There has been no space for Sindthemba Badela who was his assistant at Wydad and it is to be seen of Allan Freese will join him.

    WHAT MOKWENA SAID

“We will have two assistant coaches,” Mokwena said as per iDiski Times

“Coach Wendell Robinson, who has a background of working with national teams in South Africa, a former professional football player in South Africa, but also a Champions League winner, multiple league title with Mamelodi Sundowns, and of course the African Super League.

“We have also coach Enzo Donis, he’s coming in as an assistant and a set-piece coach, too. He has great European experience, speaks multiple languages like French, Spanish and English.

"He will also help with the African experience because he’s coached [at] the Togo national team currently and AS Vita club," added the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach.

“We have conditioning coaches in coach Sbu Mahlangu – again, he also from Mamelodi Sundowns, he was with us in Wydad, so he has a good experience in the North African space.

"He will help us a lot in getting the players conditioned in our game model and the style of play.  And then coach Yassim will also join in a few days as a second conditioning coach and that completes the technical team.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mokwena is at a club which is very similar to his previous club Wydad when it comes to demanding results.

His predecessor, Tunisian, Khaled Ben Yahia parted ways with MC Alger after winning the Ligue 1 title and the Algerian Super Cup.

That means Mokwena needs the best brains around him to help deliver trophies, especially that they will be participating in the CAF Champions League.

    WHAT NEXT FOR MOKWENA?

Mokwena has already started work at MC Alger and has a task on his hands to defend the Ligue 1 and Super Cup.

The Champions League is another big test Mokwena who had insisted, after leaving Wydad, that his next job would be in charge of a team that participates in African continental competition.
