    WHAT HAPPENED?

The veteran goalkeeper Patrick Matasi has been one of the key players for the Kenya national team, Harambee Stars.

He has been conceding questionable goals in important games for both club and country.

The 37-year-old was not called up by new coach Benni McCarthy in the recent international break, a decision that the South African will be glad of as a match fixing scandal has broken out around the keeper.

The Kakamega Homeboys shot-stopper has denied the allegations, as confirmed by his domestic club owner Cleophas Shimanyula.

"When the first video emerged on Wednesday night, I sent it to him and his response was that he knows nothing about it," he said as quoted by The Nation.

"[On Thursday] morning, I shared the second part with him, but he said that is not him in the video. He is shocked by the videos," he concluded.

  • WHAT DID FKF SAY?

    WHAT NEXT?

Matasi has a tough assignment to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he has not been fixing games.

It will be a shame if he is found guilty of the offense which would surely finish his career.

National team coach Benni McCarthy must be thankful he did not call on Matsi's experience in his first Kenya squad and instead called up Ian Otieno, Brian Bwire and Faruk Shikhalo.
