    WHAT HAPPENED?

Defending Premier Soccer League champions Mamelodi Sundowns have an unmatched appetite when it comes to quality players.

In more than a decade, they have been signing all the best players in Mzansi.

It explains their dominance as far as South African top-flight football is concerned.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

In the concluded January transfer window, Masandawana made adjustments to their squad.

Thembinkosi Lorch, Rushine de Reuck and Lebohang Maboe were sent out on loan while Lesiba Nku was sold.

The Brazilians signed defenders Lucas Suarez and Keanu Cupido. Midfielder Jayden Adams was also snapped from Stellenbosch.

Bafana Bafana coach is surprised that Masandawana are still signing players when they have the quality to carry them through.

He argues it will be tough on him when it comes to replacing injured or ineffective players.

    WHAT BROOS SAID

“I have to think about how I’m going to say this because it’s dangerous, but I understand that Sundowns want the best players and I also understand that they buy them because they have money," the 72-year-old told the media.

"They have plenty of money, but at the end what are you going to do with all those players?

“I see Adams now, okay, we will see. In Stellenbosch he played every game and I know Sundowns are playing many games, the Champions League and Nedbank and the league competition and you need more than 20 players but if I’m right they have 38 players or something.

“I’m not criticizing Sundowns, I’m just looking in a realistic way, what are they going to do with all those players? And they are internationals, it’s not like the one with for example [Tashreeq] Matthews, he doesn’t play every game but he’s not with the national team. “But at Sundowns there are national team players who don’t play and for me, it’s a little bit not a happy feeling because you have to at a certain moment replace the player because they are not playing, not because they are not good enough.

“Okay, that’s the policy of Sundowns, it’s not up to me to criticise that I have to respect that but sometimes it’s not easy.”
