    WHAT HAPPENED?

A moment of brilliance from Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and a calm, clinical penalty by Glody Lilepo sealed Kaizer Chiefs’ 2-0 win over Stellenbosch at Athlone Stadium on Sunday, 10 August.

The victory came despite the absence of head coach Nasreddine Nabi, who returned to Tunisia following a car accident involving his wife.

In his place, first assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef stepped up on the touchline and shared his reflections after the match.

    WHAT WAS SAID?

“First, I have to say, we promised all the family of Khosi that we will win this game for the coach [Nabi] and for his wife, and we pray that she will be okay and be better,” he told SuperSport TV post the match.

“We are so proud of our players, they did very well, I think they performed very well. We suffered a little bit in the first half because when we scored and the opponent got a red card, mentally we thought we finished the game.

“But we were lucky we didn’t concede. So in the second half we changed a lot of things and like I said we’re proud of the players, they did very well, all of them.

“And we’re happy also for the fans now we finished this game, and we start to think about the next game (against) Polokwane [City].

“And just we have two days to rest, and we have to think about the next game,” he concluded.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Ben Youssef is no stranger to leading from the front for Chiefs.

The former Young Africans assistant coach guided the team to a 1-0 win over Sekhukhune United and a dominant 4-0 victory against Free Agents last season.

Nabi was serving a suspension at the time.
