    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs defeated Stellenbosch FC 3-1 in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday night to advance to the semi-finals of the tournament.

Just when it seemed that the game would head to extra time, the Glamour Boys scored a controversial goal in stoppage time before they added the sealing goal to make it three for the evening.

Despite the victory for Chiefs, coach Nasreddine Nabi affirmed that his team needs to show that they are a major team. Conversely, Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker criticized the referees, claiming that his team was robbed.

    WHAT NABI SAID

"It’s true that everyone is very happy, the supporters all across South Africa. But we need to think like a big club, this was a step and we need to concentrate on the next step to go all the way," Nabi said on SuperSport TV after the match.

"It was disappointing [to concede], but we knew that we were playing a very strong and tough team and after conceding the goal we kept believing that we could come back and we were prepared for extra-time.

"That’s why as well we brought in Mduduzi Shabalala, Mfundo Vilakazi because we were planning for extra-time, planning to give us that extra strength."

    WHAT BARKER SAID

"I am just going to keep it brief, I'm not going to talk about the game, look two years ago in the MTN8 quarter-final we got a penalty in the 96th minute against Chiefs, at Danie Craven, and it got overturned," Barker said.

"We played in the [MTN8] final against [Orlando] Pirates, they get a free-kick five meters in advance, it gets given.

“Today, the linesman puts his flag up for a foul on our goalkeeper, which we could clearly see it was, it gets overturned. So what can I say? Thank you."
