    WHAT HAPPENED?

Orlando Pirates have signed more than 10 players in the ongoing transfer window to ensure they have enough depth ahead of the new season.

They are preparing for a heavy schedule that includes the Caf Champions League, the Premier Soccer League and other domestic competitions.

The most important thing is to accord new coach Abdeslam Ouaddou all the quality players he needs to deliver.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Among the players at Pirates are Oswin Appollis, who made his name at Polokwane City before getting his chance with Bafana Bafana.

The Buccaneers will surely benefit from the 23-year-old's experience since it will give them options in the wide areas, especially after the exit of Mohau Nkota.

Former Sea Robbers midfielder Aubrey Lekwane believes the attacker will deliver, and went on to explain why the signings aren't proof that Bucs are competing with Mamelodi Sundowns.

    WHAT LEKWANE SAID

“The way he plays, his style suits Pirates’ play. He is also quick in terms of attacking and coming back to defend," he told FARPost.

"He is also a good player in terms of technique and tactics, I foresee a lot of potential in him.

"I hope he is not going to be ruled by fear. He will be a better player at Pirates," he continued.
“Pirates didn’t sign players to compete with Sundowns but to improve the team.

"They also want to compete in all competitions, especially CAF [Champions League] as it is a bigger target these days than the league,” he concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

It will be another new and different challenge for Appollis, who will be playing for one of the biggest teams in the country.

But having played for South Africa in critical games will make it easier for him to settle and most probably deliver as anticipated.
