Stellenbosch FC were unable to make use of home-ground advantage after suffering a heavy 3-1 defeat against RSB Berkane in the Caf Confederation Cup match at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Moroccan outfit began the match with great momentum as Youssef Zghoudi scored the first goal for the Oranges Boys in the fifth minute before doubling the lead in the 15th minute.

From the bench, Reda Hajji scored the visitor's third goal in the 83rd minute. Chumani Butsaka, who also came on as a substitute, netted a consolation goal for Stellenbosch just three minutes before the final whistle.

The Premier Soccer League team exerted every effort to launch attacks and seek goals, but time was not on their side as they found themselves losing their second consecutive Caf Confederation Cup group stage match.

    THE MVP

Even though Stellenbosch controlled most parts of the match, they were unable to take advantage of the opportunities they created.

Berkane's Zghoudi deserves recognition for his contribution and for assisting Berkane in securing maximum points on the road.

    THE BIG LOSER

A negative result, especially on their home ground, must be disappointing for Steve Barker and his team, as they would have aimed to secure their first victory in the Caf Confederation Cup group stage.

Stellies find themselves still without points in the Group B standings after two matches - having also been defeated in their first match of the group stage campaign.
