Stellenbosch FC climbed to fourth place on the log after edging Marumo Gallants 1-0 at DHL Cape Town Stadium on Thursday, thanks to Thabo Moloisane’s second-half goal in the 76th minute.
The game began at a slow pace, with both teams pressing but neither willing to concede.
Despite holding possession, Marumo Gallants never truly challenged Stellenbosch with any dangerous goal-scoring opportunities.
Gallants were without their head coach Dan Malesela on the bench, relying on Duncan Lechesa as a stand-in.
The first half saw little action, with goalkeepers Sage Stephens and Washington Arubi remaining untested.
Maroons’ strikers Ashley Cupido and Andre De Jong attempted to break through but couldn’t find the net
.Ultimately, Moloisane’s well-placed header secured three points for Steve Barker’s side, bringing them within seven points of log leaders Orlando Pirates. Gallants, meanwhile, remain in 14th place with just four points from one win in six games.
