    WHAT HAPPENED?

Stellenbosch have reclaimed the third position after beating AmaZulu 1-0 in a Premier Soccer League (PSL) match staged at Danie Craven Stadium on Tuesday.

Stellies were forced to make a change in the 10th minute when Langelihle Phili was introduced for Ashley Cupido. The early change did not stop the Caf Confederation Cup semi-finalists from taking the lead as Sanele Barns scored in the 29th minute.

Barns had an easy task of redirecting a corner kick by Fawaaz Basadien into the back of the net after Richard Ofori failed to read well the direction the ball was taking.

Stellies could have doubled their lead in the second half, but Devon Titus could not place the ball into the top corner despite being in a good place to score.

Ben Motshwari came close to equalising for Usuthu in added time, but his effort went off-target slightly wide.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The win helped Stellies to get back to the third position, while AmaZulu failed to collect points that would have seen them widen the gap between them and Kaizer Chiefs.

Usuthu are seventh with 33 points, two more than Chiefs, although Amakhosi have played two fewer games.

Steve Barker is facing a new headache after Cupido's withdrawal.

Cupido was stretchered off with what looked like a hamstring problem. He may miss their Confederation Cup semi-final against Simba SC of Tanzania.
