Kaizer Chiefs were held to a goalless draw by Polokwane City in their final game of the season at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

This means Amakhosi have failed to get a ticket to the MTN8 as their winless run persisted in the league.

Meanwhile, Chiefs started quite strongly and would have taken the lead in the 20th minute, but Dillan Solomons was denied by the post. The Amakhosi were unlucky again as the rebound by Morris was saved by Brian Bwire.

Another chance to break the deadlock came in the 40th minute, but Edmilson Dove's effort hit the crossbar.

Coach Nabi made a change just before halftime as he brought on Ashley Du Preez and withdrew Tashreeq Morris.

Yusuf Maart was also denied by a timely goal clearance as Chiefs desperately looked for a goal.

The result means that Amakhosi have finished ninth with 32 points and Polokwane are seventh with 35 points.

    THE MVP

Phuti Mohafe has secured a top-eight finish as his charges denied Chiefs a chance to break into the MTN8 bracket.

This is an improvement from what Rise and Shine achieved last season, where they finished eighth.

  • Nasreddine Nabi, Kaizer ChiefsBackpage

    THE BIG LOSER

Nabi has failed to guide Chiefs to the top eight, and that means one of the season's objectives has not been achieved.

Although he ended the trophy drought at Naturena, Amakhosi have struggled in the PSL and ended the season without a win in nine straight games.

This will make his position subject to more assessment as to whether he is capable of taking the club to a higher level.

    WHAT COMES NEXT?

Chiefs and Polokwane have ended the season, and what remains now is going back to the drawing board, assessing their weaknesses, and how they can address them before the next campaign begins.

Particularly, Chiefs business in the transfer window will be something that will be followed closely by their fans.
