BackpageOrlando Pirates had a good Tuesday night at the Orlando Stadium in the Premier Soccer League game against Richards Bay.
Evidence Makgopa ensured his coach Jose Riveiro got a win to celebrate his 100th game as the club's coach.
The victory also ensured the Buccaneers collected their seventh league win in a row for the first time in their history.
BackpageCoach Riveiro was happy to have managed to get maximum points on a special night in his Bucs' career but felt his team could have scored more goals.
"I think it was a complete performance, 1-0 is a very short result in my opinion, we managed to create good and clear chances to go to the next stages of the game with a little bit more, not relaxed but you know what I mean," he said after the game.
"But anyway I think the game was totally under control from our side, from the beginning. It took time in the first 15, to 20 minutes as usual to find spaces against the back five and a low block. But due to the patience and the quality of the boys we managed to do it well.
"It is not by chance, it's due to good organization, and the courage of the players. Today, you saw the goal, it was a rebound, lucky enough we managed to collect the three points."
BackpageAfter hitting 100 games for Pirates, Riveiro is now hoping to have even better days in the future with the Soweto Giants.
"We started a new project here two years and four months ago, with a three-year contract. So every time you start a project, you want to finish the project, not obviously counting how many games you’re going to be in charge," the Spaniard continued.
"I’m a very fortunate person to have that honour one more time, and then the number of games it has is related to our performance, with the fact that we have an excellent team this season, one season ago, two seasons ago, we always manage to compete properly.
"So like you said, I think it is good today, but tomorrow it is anecdotal. We will be thinking about the 101 and then the next one. But I’m not gonna lie, I'm proud of what we have achieved as a team so far, and look into the future with optimism and illusion."
Backpage"The seven games, that’s probably even more important than the 100 games, in my opinion, the fact that the boys managed to break one record tells quite a lot about how difficult it is to win consistently," Riveiro said after the historic win.
"Not really thinking [about] the records. It’s just a sign of how difficult it is, something that you achieve when it’s the first time that somebody does it. So I’m happy for the boys, happy for the club in general, and like I said to the next one."
BackpagepixPirates will now rest ahead of the international break which will give a good number of their players time to relax and focus on the next assignment.
Their next outing will be in the Caf Champions League group game against Khanyisa Mayo's CR Belouizdad on November 26.
