    WHAT HAPPENED?

Wydad Athletic Club were away against Raja Casablanca in the Botola Pro League game staged at the Stade Larbi Zaouli.

It was the 37-year-old's first Casablanca Derby after leaving South Africa following his fallout with the Premier Soccer League defending champions.

The hosts scored first through Pape Sakho while Mohamed Rayhi responded to ensure spoils were shared.

While Mokwena is happy with the spirit shown by his players, he is unhappy with the fact that there were no fans that were allowed into the stadium owing to security concerns.

    WHAT MOKWENA SAID

“It’s a derby, I thought we were in control in both halves. The boys did very well to fight back," Mokwena told the media.

"I am disappointed in the goal we conceded, that picture of Zehouni coming from the wing is the same picture against Mas [Fes], the same picture as Soualem, against MAT, the same in the last four, five games.

“But I’m happy with the players, the mentality, the fight, you all know I have watched the last four derbies in the Botola and we struggled against Raja, but [on Friday] we dominated Raja and I’m very proud of the players for that," he added.

“I don’t like the game without fans but I understand why we have to play sometimes without fans.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Wydad AC have been struggling for consistency in the Botola Pro League, but getting a point against their old rivals is a massive confidence booster.

It means Mokwena has managed to help his team collect four wins, as many draws, and three losses in the ongoing campaign.

However, they have to get positive results consistently to ensure they stand a chance of getting back to the top positions and at least make a return to the continental assignments.

  • WHAT NEXT?

Mokwena has time to prepare his team ahead of the next assignment scheduled for Friday against Olympic Safi.

The most important thing is to ensure they get maximum points to stand a chance of reducing the gap between them and leaders RS Berkane on the league table.
