    WHAT HAPPENED?

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye is convinced Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng is the next best thing in South African football.

Mofokeng has established himself as a key Buccaneers player and is now an international player with Bafana Bafana.

Khanye's remarks come amid South Africa's struggle to have players signing for Premier League clubs and the calibre of the likes of Benni McCarthy and Steven Pienaar.

    WHAT KHANYE SAID

“For me, he’s one of the best players in a while in South African football as a whole,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.

“I know football is a game of opinions. When you check the boy’s decision-making, you look at his age, others do what he does at the age of 26 they even need to be loaned out and come back matured. But look at this boy and how he decides."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

That Mofokeng is a rare breed of footballer to have emerged in South Africa after a long while could be easily justifiable.

He went for trials at Wolverhampton Wanderers, as his talent could not escape the eyes of the Premier League side.

He is now being linked with La Liga giants Barcelona and is already being touted to form a formidable partnership with Spain star Lamine Yamal.

    WHAT NEXT FOR MOFOKENG?

Pirates visit Premier Soccer League basement side Magesi FC on Sunday as they seek to keep the pressure on log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

It is a match in which Mofokeng is expected to continue with his fine form and help the Buccaneers win their first PSL title since 2012.
