    WHAT HAPPENED?

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has named a strong 23-man squad that will face Uganda and South Sudan in their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Broos welcomed Orlando Pirates striker Evidence Makgopa and Mamelodi Sundowns defender Mothobi Mvala back to the team. Former Kaizer Chiefs player Siyabonga and Mihlahli Mayambela, who plays for Cypriot club Aris Limassol, have also returned to the squad.

Stellenbosch goalkeeper Sage Stephens earned himself a first Bafana call-up having had a good start to the season for him so far. The 33-year-old keeper replaces Ricardo Goss, who is currently out of form.

Some of the notable absentees in Broos’ squad include Burnley star Lyle Foster and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Themba Zwane due to injuries.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Bafana Bafana are currently second in Group K with eight points and four more than third-placed Congo-Brazzaville who still have a chance of qualifying.

Broos' team needs just three points against either Uganda or South Sudan out of the available six in Group K to qualify for the Afcon finals.

With Zwane and Foster out injured, players like Mokoena, Rayners, and Makgopa will be expected to step up and help the team qualify.

    WHAT NEXT FOR BAFANA BAFANA?

Bafana will first face off against Uganda at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala next Friday before hosting South Sudan at the DHL Stadium on November 19.

Safa have already announced that the tickets for the Bafana match against South Sudan are available as they anticipate a huge number of supporters to attend the game in Cape Town.
