    WHAT HAPPENED?

Jose Riveiro opted against extending his deal at Orlando Pirates, choosing to take a new challenge in Egypt with Al Ahly.

The Buccaneers appointed former Marumo Gallants and Morocco legend Abdeslam Ouaddou to take over from the Spaniard.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

During the three years he served Bucs, Riveiro won five trophies and finished second in the Premier Soccer League for three consecutive seasons.

There have been question marks by critics regarding the appointment of Ouaddou as the club's new coach. Some feel he is ready, others believe the Soweto giants are too big for him.

Club legend Lucky Lekgwathi has explained why the fans should be patient with the former defender, especially in regards to winning the PSL title.

    WHAT LEKGWATHI SAID

"The coach is still new, so people must not put pressure on him," the former defender told Sowetan.

"We must just give him time to implement his philosophy. I know supporters, the expectations are high, but for me, winning the league would be a bonus for the coach, although it's our wish," Lekgwathi added.

    AND WHAT IS MORE

The Pirates legend has further lauded the former Morocco international for entrusting Mbekezeli Mbokazi with a leadership role, despite the player being just 19. He was appointed Nkosinathi Sibisi's assistant captain.

"Mbokazi can also do it. It has always been Pirates' tradition to believe in young leaders," Lekgwathi continued.
"Sibisi has proven that he's a good leader. He's a hard worker, and he's now the Defender of the Season. He's a disciplined boy, and now he's also vocal, shouting instructions from the back.

"I am happy for him, and we will also help him as former captains if he needs anything," he concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Ouaddou's first job was to help Bucs get past Polokwane City in the quarter final of the MTN8, an assignment he did well by claiming a 2-0 win.

The massive job will now be to deliver in the PSL and the CAF Champions League as well.
