    WHAT HAPPENED?

Orlando Pirates midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi is one of the creative talents in the Premier Soccer League.

He has been doing well for the Soweto giants since joining from SuperSport United.

One of his identities is showboating.

While others frown upon this part of his game, coach Jose Riveiro has revealed why he tolerates it.

    WHAT RIVEIRO SAID

“Tito is the type of player that South African football fans want to see on the field, especially in big games. He brings flair, the identity of our football and the origin of our football,” he told the Bucs Camp on Pirates TV.

“So Tito comes from that background, and he must be himself, but he must not forget that we’re playing to win.

"We are in the business of winning and getting three points, we are not in the business of stepping onto the ball, but I think Tito is one of those players that needs to do those things [showboating] to get the confidence and the arrogance which is necessary," Riveiro concluded.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Last season, he played 40 games for the Sea Robbers across all competitions. He went on to score 10 goals and provide 12 assists in the process.

In the ongoing campaign, he has played 30 games already for the Sea Robbers in all tournaments with a return of five goals and three assists.

With Bucs pushing for the PSL, Nedbank Cup, and Caf Champions League, Maswanganyi will be required to be at his best.

Tito is also part of the Bafana Bafana squad but was unlucky to miss the most recent international assignments owing to an injury.

    WHAT NEXT?

For Maswanganyi to remain a factor for both the Soweto giants and Bafana Bafana, he has to be effective in the final third.

It means he has to produce good numbers in terms of goals and assists.
