Multichoice owned SuperSport TV has announced it will not broadcast the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after losing rights to New World TV

SuperSport TV has announced that they will not be broadcasting the <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-za/betting/afcon-fixtures-2024/blt287be8dfe024b45d" target="_blank">2023 Africa Cup of Nations</a> taking place in Ivory Coast between January and February. This comes after they lost the bid to a Togo-based broadcaster.&nbsp;The Multichoice-owned sports network has been one of the most reliable and regular broadcaster of all African competitions over the years, but of late, they have shown less appetite in displaying Caf competitions.&nbsp;SuperSport were not keen on showing the newly launched <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-za/lists/african-super-league-teams-prize-money-format-and-everything-we-know-so-far/bltc2902c3d060913a9#csb03ab8c87cbc4c84" target="_blank">African Football League</a> where South African based side <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-za/team/mamelodi-sundowns/3h2hc3qy5uritiscjfq27bv3a" target="_blank">Mamelodi Sundowns </a>claimed the inaugural crown.

In a statement released on 3 January, Multichoice revealed that they failed to secure the rights to air the continental spectacle.

Caf awarded Togo's New World TV with the broadcasting rights and Caf president Patrice Motsepe has described the agreement as a mega deal which no other broadcaster could match."The Media Rights Agreement with New World TV is the biggest investment by a Pan-African broadcaster in Caf's history," <a href="https://www.cafonline.com/news/caf-concludes-historic-media-rights-agreement-with-new-world-tv-for-caf-s-free-to-air-and-pay-tv-english-and-local-languages-media-rights-for-sub-saharan-territories/#:~:text=Several%20global%20broadcasters%20and%20agencies,World%20Cup%202022%20in%20Qatar." target="_blank">said Motsepe as per Caf Online</a>.

"New World TV is also introducing new ways of consuming video content through its strong partnerships with various mobile operators and its television networks," Motsepe added.

AND WHAT ELSE?

The competition will kick off on 13 January where hosts Ivory Coast will get the proceedings under way with a clash against Guinea-Bissau. Other mouthwatering encounters will see Egypt take on Ghana on 18 January while defending champions Senegal and Cameroon will square off a day later.
